Just a blogfit for this Sunday’s post! A faux leopard fur jacket had been on my list of “vintage items to find” for quite a while, and I actually found this one months ago at a little shop and only just decided to finally buy the thing. I kept thinking about it (which always means…”BUY it”) and luckily it was still around when I went back looking for it.
Welcome to my first official “Fall” post! I can’t believe it’s already September and as of yesterday, is starting to feel like it too, with that cool Autumn air creeping its way in.
Sometimes during a different season, I like to head back to places where I’ve taken previous blog photos. It’s fun to see the differences of a place from one season to the next. This time, we headed back to Whipps Ledges, an area within the Cleveland Metroparks that we visited last December when all the leaves were gone and everything was covered in snow. It is a beautiful area that’s the location of many a wedding photo and the like.
Not having been back to Whipps Ledges since last December, it was like walking into a whole new place. In the winter, everything is so bare and wide open, the area looks huge! Not to mention very, very bright. Now, in September, the lighting is completely different from all of the leaves and foliage, the perception of space, and of course the overall appearance. I’m already making a note to myself to come back later in the Fall to see all the warm colors.
These earrings are a favorite pair of mine. The color is great and they look like they’d be super heavy on your ears but they’re surprisingly light weight.
Sweater and Shoes: Target
Top: Anthropologie (last summer)
Purse: Dooney & Bourke, thrifted
It’s hard to believe that summer is closing in on us. I will say, it sure has been a whirlwind of a summer this year, too. And now that we’re in the ides of August, I, as I’m sure many other people can relate, have started recognizing the things on the Summer Bucket List that have not yet been accomplished, as well as the fewer number of things that have been. It’s kind of a bummer, isn’t it? You think you have all summer to do all these awesome things, and then POOF…summer isn’t summer anymore. Well, since I didn’t post as much as I had hoped to this summer, this one is probably going to be one of the last of my pitifully bare summer post series. But then it’s onto Autumn-which we all will love and appreciate dearly until those white flurried guests come back to stay for longer than they are welcome, so you can expect more of a post abundance for my favorite Ohio season.
So, here’s some pop of color to add to your Summery Sunday (at least it’s pretty summery today here in the CLE, thankfully)!
I made this dress several summers ago to wear to an outdoor wedding. I had kind of forgotten about it because I had it tucked away since it needed some minor alterations. Well, I found it again and fixed it up so I could finally give it some more air time. It’s such a gorgeous print of poppies that it suits a maxi dress (and summer) so perfectly.
It’s also a great dress for spinning. ;)
Made the dress; Sunglasses-Jessica Simpson; Sandals-Target; Bracelets-Turquoise from Morocco in Disney World! :) other is vintage; Various rings.
Why, hello! Long time no blog! It’s been a crazy fast summer guys! I can’t believe it’s already the end of July! Just wanted to share an #blogfit with you, so today’s post is short and sweet.
Just checkin’ out my tomato plant (featured in the last post) which now has two more ripe tomatoes! I’m crossing my fingers for the 6 others growing to turn just as red and ripe (and delicious) as they’ve been so far.
Isn’t this bracelet awesome?? I love how the found objects and colors complement each other so well.
‘Bazaar’ tee from Dillard’s about 4 or 5 years ago; I made the polka dot skirt; bracelet from Anthropologie last year (no longer available), shoes from Target.
Often times, I think I have overlooked the beauty of Winter. Yes, it’s bitter cold, wet, overcast almost daily, and the days are long…(did I mention cold?) but there is a much needed peacefulness that comes with this somber season. Nature is quite literally hibernating this time of year, which is noticeable when you go into the park and hear not a sound. It’s just you and the brittle tree branches, iced over waters, and snow covered paths. Nature’s taking a break for a little while…but that’s okay because those recoup times are necessary for life to move on.
So enjoy winter for what it offers. Solitude. Take a quiet walk through the park (bundled warm, of course), curl up under a blanket with hot cocoa and a book, or try out a mouth-watering hearty recipe to keep your stomach warm too. That way, we’re just working with what nature has given us…for the time being.
…Because jumping keeps the blood flowing ;)
Happy New Year everyone! I hope everybody had a fun and safe holiday! We spent ours in downtown CLE and it was so much fun! A very memorable experience for the books…including one delicious Moscow Mule, a handshake with a rock guitarist, and a hug from a stranger. Not a bad way to start 2015! :) These past few weeks leading up to and including the holidays have been ultra hectic, so it’ll be nice to finally have a few days to just breathe and relax.
A great view from East 4th for the NYE downtown fireworks.
Tower City Center.
A fantastic Moscow Mule from Society Lounge on East 4th.
So, a couple weeks ago, I made myself another coat that I’ve been patiently waiting to actually accomplish. And at last, I finally have.
Wearing a Gap blouse from a few years ago, black skinny jeans, boots by Bed Stu, hat by Converse from Target many years ago, and silver earrings and tooled leather purse were mom’s.
For Christmas, we had a very yummy meal and our traditional Flaming Plum Pudding. Since it has to be started the day after Thanksgiving, my mom will often just buy a pre-made one from somewhere like William-Sonoma, but this year she was on the ball and actually made one from scratch…complete with the brandied hard sauce!
One week later, and there’s still plenty of snow on the ground and water turned to ice…we even dipped down to about 15 degrees the other day, which is definitely a temperature more suited for January of February here in our neck of the woods. However, I am plenty thankful we have not gotten 6+ feet of snow like some of our Great Lakes neighbors…I can’t imagine how difficult that has to be, thoughts and prayers for anyone having to experience that.
Yesterday, we took a little stroll down in the CLE Metroparks to see some snow covered grounds and iced over rivers. I will say, even though it is freezing, Winter nature can be very beautiful.
Wearing a sweater vest, (literally!) that I constructed from a sweater and an old vest. Scarf from a market in London, skirt made by me last year in a desperation for a light brown skirt, boots by Sorel (link below), hat with feather pom from Target a few years back. Mom’s vintage tooled leather purse, coat by Calvin Klein.
These are my most favorite Winter boots-by Sorel. Very warm, very comfy. You can find some here.
Anyone else see the lady face in this ice? ;)
Don’t worry, at least one of these Guinness glasses actually had Guinness in it, post photo opp. ;)
After a little CLE Metroparks exploration, we decided to go to P.J. McIntyre’s in West Park for dinner. It’s an Irish Pub with delicious Irish fare and drinks. I got a traditional Irish Full Breakfast which consisted of bangers, potatoes, black and white pudding, tomato, mushrooms, two eggs, beans, ham, and toast. It was. so good. And eating it instantly reminded me of the first time I had a Full Breakfast in England. It’s just a whole lotta good food on one plate. Nice and hearty, great for this cold Winter weather.
The atmosphere is absolutely perfect for a pub, too. Dark wood, barrel tables, fire place…even the floors have this very suitable motif. If you can’t already tell, if you’re in CLE and have never been, or you’re visiting and want somewhere to go, check it out!
What a drastic difference in weather we’ve had from my post last week to this week. Here we are in the ides of November, leaves still on trees but we have a few inches of snow on the ground. And here my last post is all about preserving the season while we can! :( womp womp. I honestly can’t remember the last time it snowed this early for us, or so heavily at least. That’s the thing with Ohio, it is only November, and technically still Fall but here we are launched right into Winter, whether we like it or not…and we’ll likely be stuck in Winter for another 5 months, because that’s how we do it here. Half the year is Winter, and the other half is probably a combination of the other 3 seasons-maybe all in one week, if we’re lucky. ;)
We took some pics today at Lakewood Park in Lakewood. It’s a great spot to see the CLE skyline, as you can see from a few of these photos. It’s such a funny juxtaposition to see snow covered trees that still have all their green leaves. Winter is just plowing its way in…and boy is it cold. And fierce.
We stopped by Erie Island Coffee in Rocky River before we headed to Lakewood Park. They have very yummy coffee and food, if you’re ever in the CLE area and need a coffee spot. There is also a location on East 4th, downtown.
Wearing leather aviator jacket from Victoria’s Secret (no longer available), AG jeans, Fisherman sweater from LL Bean (super warm!!), boots from Free People, mom’s tooled leather purse, scarf from H&M, necklace from Anthropologie.
Where is the time going this year? It seems like this year has absolutely flown by already. It’s hard to believe that Halloween is now past, and Thanksgiving is coming up so quickly… and we all know what that means, we’re already full fledged into the Holiday mode. I’m a big advocate for not caving in too early. I think it’s really important to savor the time as it is and not jump too far ahead of ourselves with the Holidays. It seems evident that since now retailers are open as early as 5 pm on Thanksgiving, we have truly lost sight of what’s important to us. At the risk of sounding too cliche, it seems we have forgotten the true meanings of the Holidays and are now more focused on the material side. And don’t get me wrong, ‘stuff’ can be loads of fun, but in the end, the material stuff isn’t what’s going to matter.
With these thoughts floating through my head lately, today we’ve (me + husband) taken advantage of the nature around us because just about all of the leaves have fallen and winters inevitable appearance is likely to sprinkle any time now. Also, CLE has gotten a few days of very pleasant weather the past week or so, and it’s appropriate to take it all in before we don’t see the sun for another 5 or 6 months. After we walked around in the park and got photos, we decided it’d be a good day to take (probably) one last bike ride of the 2014 year..because right now, that seemed more appropriate than watching a Holiday movie.
Wearing leather jacket by Buffalo by David Bitton (no longer available); wool vest made by my mom in the 70’s! Also her tooled leather purse; H&M skirt; scarf from a market in London; booties by Bed Stu.
Hello all! I know it’s been a while, and I hate to be one of those bloggers who apologizes every post for not posting in a while…but really, I do apologize…you know how the story goes, life has just gotten in the way of life! Anyway, here I am! And I am going to be sure to snatch some awesome Fall related photos and turn them into some especially awesome posts for you guys…because let’s face it, Fall really is the greatest season so it deserves all the attention it can get for the short time it usually lasts.
Today, I bring you a Fall blogfit featuring the same green pants I wore in a post from LAST fall! They truly are probably one of, if not my most favorite pair of pants that I own for this time of the year. The color is expertly versatile, they are incredibly comfortable, and they are made by AG Jeans which is a US made brand, and in my book, that makes them even better.
Pants from Anthropologie by AG, (color no longer available); Jacket was my sisters! Shoes from DSW, (no longer available); Jade necklace was my Grandma’s; Hat by Converse (?) for Target, (no longer available).
