November Days

It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is already less than two weeks away.  Turkey Day ranks pretty high on my list of favorite holidays, so it makes me a little sad that we now have a tendency to overlook it as the holiday that transitions us between Halloween and Christmas.  Starting November 1st, it’s now all about Christmas shopping, which frankly is kind of sad.  We already live in a fast-moving world, more than we realize, so why not enjoy the holidays-and all they bring with them- as they come.

The most recent world news is also a good reminder of the importance of slowing down, taking a breath and enjoying all that we have in our lives. Love with all your heart, cherish moments with friends and family and appreciate the little things that will always make you smile.  In times  of hardship, what’s important is how we react.  Resilience builds the strength that empowers us to continue living.

Happy 3rd Birthday PDLS!

Can you believe it!? Polka Dots and Leopard Spots is already 3 years old!! My, how time flies.
I must admit there where times I thought I wouldn’t keep going but I’m happy I have kept going. PDLS has been a very great outlet for me to express things I find interesting, beautiful or inspiring, or just worth the share. I hope you guys have enjoyed the evolution as much as I have. When looking back through much older posts, it’s so great to actually be able to see the progress and is what will keep me improving.

So thanks guys, for keeping me posting so I can keep you posted! ;)

Find You

Just a little food for thought today. I’m a big quote person…as minute as they may seem, sometimes the impact of a good quote can be quite the contrary, and a lot of the time, serve as a reminder that we’re all in this thing called life together.

No Rhyme, No Reason

I apologize for the recent infrequent posting. I’ve been getting over the flu the past week, and man… this time around, it. has. been. rough. I hadn’t gotten it in a few years, and I must of just gotten a very bad strain of it this year.

I am feeling better though…just not when I’m standing for a long time, so I thought, ‘hey, I can sit while I update the blog’! And a forewarning, this is an entirely content filled post, since I’ve had a lot of time to just think these past few days. ;)

While I’ve spent the past several days cozied up on the couch, I of course took advantage by watching some good movies-both on TV and DVD. One favorite I came across on TV the other day was Notting Hill, with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts.
I just love this movie. I like it more and more each time I watch it. I just love the Brits’ witty senses of humor, and their flats, and markets, and just how they live. But it’s also such a lovely story. Not only because of the obvious ‘love story’ part of it, but just about life, too.

We all go through things in life that no one other person will completely understand. Life is about ups and downs, We each behold our own individual life, and in our own way, our own little worlds. But I think it’s always important to take a second, and realize that everyone has a story…so we must not judge, assume, or treat someone as if we know them completely, because the truth is…the only person who knows a person completely is that person themself.

There’s one scene in the movie where they’re all having dinner (William and his sister, inlaws, friends) and Bella says:

She then gets cut off by Bernie, who announces he had been fired. But there’s just so much truth to her statement.
I believe that there are reasons in life, and that most of the reasons for our experiences has 99% to do with the universe teaching us a lesson of life. But then there are times where it does feel like there is absolutely no rhyme or reason to life, and sometimes we really won’t know the reasons why some things happen and others don’t, but that’s just all the more motivation to keep trecking on. Life is a bit of a gamble, right? You cannot predict it. It’s a bit of give and take, this for that, ‘win some, lose some’, it’s just simply up and down. In a way, you wonder if life is not like this because it’s the only way the universe can keep us all in check.

Life. You just have to go with it. Don’t keep your expectations too high, and you won’t always feel disappointed when there’s no rhyme or reason.

I think that may be the only way to get through the ups and downs…just go with it.
